The Witches

The origins of the witches is clouded in mystery and most of which is known of there beginnings comes from the witches own stories which like all things that comes from them is reefed in lies and half truths.
However some information is known of there beginnings from very early Elven writings about the Deep Forest to the south of Telwya near the beginnings Elven historical record making and keeping.
Some centuries before the arrival of the race of Men a small elven family of wandering elves came across two sisters of strange unseen complexion approaching there camp. Some believe these where two of the first of the race of Men, other think them to be a far distance tribe of elvendom long lost, others believed them to be totally unique to all other beings before and since. Which ever theory holds true the family invited the two women too join them at there camp fire as they both appeared tired and forlorn.
They learned the sister's names to be Mercura and Verilla. Once they had gained some strength back in there bodies with food and water kindly given they where asked what had befallen them and what or where they had come from.
Mercura the less fair of the two sisters commanded them not to speak of there past and lead them on to the nearest city at first light. While the elves found this strange they where more concerned when Mercura leapt to her feet crying out her alarm at how they appeared immune to her orders.
The fairer of the sisters asked her sister to calm herself seeming more interested in the fact the family was resistant too there influence.
Verilla enquired to the families race which they told of there kinsmen of immortal race and how they had wandered onto this great continent many hundreds of years ago and apart from animals of various description had not encountered other beings of speech and knowledge.
The sisters both seemed very surprised by this but did not offer reason for their surprise.
The father of the elven family felt a cold fear enter his heart for reasons he did not understand he believed the women he had invited to his families camp side where dangerous.
It was in this moment that Mercura and Verilla stood and left the camp without word or reason or backward glance.
The feeling of the father that his family where in danger grow with every moment that the night continued on wards, he gathered his family with out delay and still before mornings first light they departed away from the forest the father suspect the sisters had entered once leaving their camp.
From his children's tiredness he chose to let his family rest for a time on the valley ridge many miles from where they had camped at the Deep South forests northern most borders. Looking south the elven father with his keen sight looked over the dark canopy of the far away forest and fancied he saw bursts of coloured light escaping from deep with in.
Feeling the dread that something truly awful had just arrived upon there long peaceful lands he dared tarry no longer and bid his family onwards as fast they where able far away from the deep forest.

This is the earliest account of the witch's arrival in Telwya.
The first account of many concerning the witches.
